Minix mowing down the opposition
Excellence is often a hard thing to measure in sports. For Profs sophomore pitcher Jamie Minix, it certainly isn’t.
Minix has been a pleasant surprise for the Rowan softball team. The super-sophomore has posted a stellar 15-3 record with a 1.02 ERA this season while pitching 15 complete games in 109.2 innings.
With seniors leaving last season, it was uncertain who would become the ace of the pitching staff. Minix stepped up, and has pitched an incredible season so far. She has also taken on a leadership role on the team and is well respected by her teammates.
“Jamie works hard every day,” said catcher senior Steph Taraschi. “She never gives up and is always working to improve. She encourages everyone in the dugout and is a great leader on the field.”
Minix has been playing softball since she was 5. When she attended Kingsway Regional High School she was successful playing softball and field hockey.
Minix believes her greatest accomplishment was winning a state championship during her senior year with her two younger sisters on the team.
Her family was very influential on her softball career. Minix said their input was what made her want to be a softball player.
“It’s fun and you make a lot of new friends,” Minix said. “My dad wanted me to play when I was a kid.”
Minix has made some fairly big accomplishments already at Rowan. Most recently on April 18, she threw a no-hitter against Rutgers-Camden.
“It feels really great to know all my hard work in the off season is finally paying off,” said Minix. “In order to succeed at anything, you have to work hard.”
Minix is majoring in health and physical education. She hopes to become a gym teacher and coach softball, but before she leaves Rowan, Minix hopes to win a National Championship and receive All-American Honors.
