Rowan continued its successful softball season with two wins over Rutgers-Camden on Sunday.

The Profs won each game of the doubleheader by the score of 8-0.

“Jamie Minix threw two great games today,” said head coach Kim Wilson.  “I think we kept them off balance offensively and we put the ball in play and they made mistakes, so it was a good day.”

Pitcher Jamie Minix threw a no-hitter in the first game, allowing only one base runner in the game.

It also helped that Rowan’s offense hit very well.  Second basemen Jenna DiDonato was two-for-four with two RBIs. Right fielder Heidi Smith went three-for-three with two doubles and also scored two runs.  Center-fielder Nikki Veneziano went two-for-four with an RBI.

In the second game, Minix pitched four shutout innings before Erika Knorr relieved Minix and threw a hit-less fifth inning to win the game for the Profs.

Minix allowed only one hit in a combined nine innings against Rutgers-Camden.

Catcher Steph Taraschi had a big day at the plate, especially during the second game.  She was two-for-three with a grand slam and two runs scored.

Smith and DiDonato each added an RBI for the Profs.

Four of Rowan’s last five games are against New Jersey Athletic Conference opponents.  These games are incredibly important for the Profs heading towards the postseason.

On Tuesday the Profs split a doubleheader with Richard Stockton College. Rowan won the first game 2-0 but lost the second one after the Ospreys came back to win 4-3. With the split, the Profs are 21-8 with a 9-3 record in the NJAC, while Stockton is 19-9 overall and 7-5 in the conference.

“Stockton is a very good team,” Wilson said. “They’re battling for first place and they’ve beaten some quality teams and they play good ball.”

The NJAC standings are crowded at the top.  The College of New Jersey is currently in first place with a record of 25-5 overall and 11-1 in conference.  Rowan currently sits in second place.   Ramapo is in third place, while Richard Stockton sits in fourth place.

Rowan faces non-conference opponent Swarthmore College on the road today at 3 p.m.
