Rowan alumni came together Tuesday night to share their experience with Rowan students. The “Ask an Alum” event was co-sponsored by The Career and Academic Planning Center and the Alumni Association. Over 30 alumni from diverse careers were available to offer their words of wisdom.
Junior English major April Schetrone attended the event because she was unsure of her future career plans.
“I’m just here trying to figure out what I want to do,” Schetrone said.
Freshman graphic design and business major Jessica McCargo came to ask alumni what to expect after she graduates.
“I want to get a glimpse of what I might be getting into,” McCargo said.
The event gave students the chance to network with professionals actively working in their field of interest or to casually explore different career options. Alumni were able to give an inside look at what students can do with their major and what the work world is really like.
“It’s better to hear it from someone who is actually in the field,” said Hugo Quevedo, a freshman math education major.
Students who registered for the event were given information packets at the door which included suggestions of “top 10 networking questions” to ask the alumni, such as, “What advice do you have for students just starting out?”
“Hopefully I’ll learn some tips on how to get a job and where to go,” said Kathleen Coulter, a senior English education major.
