Crime log: Nasty smells from the cafeteria

Feb. 17, 7:56 p.m. – Student Center Food Court

Several employees of the Student Center food court felt tired and reported headaches after complaining of a suspicious odor. Employees said the smell had started a couple of hours before and complained of their ailments to their Sodexo supervisor.

The downstairs cafeteria was examined by the Glassboro Fire Department, Rowan’s EMS, the Rowan Police and maintenance to determine if mechanical or gas problems were the root of the sickening odor.

I’m going to go out on a hunch and say that it was not a technical problem, but rather a case of the hot dogs sold at “Big Dog on Campus.” I mean really, have you ventured down to that side of the Food Court before? It sure doesn’t smell like waffle fries from Chick-fil-A anymore.

Don’t worry, the area was closed for the remainder of the evening and no more food was sold. The doors were locked and the windows were shut to keep whatever it was that made the employees sick in the first place linger until the next morning, when the Food Court reopened.

Feb. 20, 9:05 p.m. – Alvin Spheen Hall

As a police officer saw an illegally-parked car, its owner approached the officer stating that he had lost his keys and wouldn’t be able to move his car until the next day. Upon further review, the officer realized the owner of the vehicle had a warrant out for several hundreds of dollars in Glassboro and placed him under arrest.

The real question here is: where is Alvin Spheen Hall? Is it on-campus or just a campus affiliate? What goes on there and why, as a senior, am I just finding out about this now?

Not to take sides or anything but maybe the student didn’t even know he was parked illegally. Maybe he had never heard of the building either and just decided with all the snow-blocked spots he would park his car on any free pavement he saw.

I guess now that point is kind of moot, with him trying to post bail and everything.
