The Student Government Association (SGA) filled the executive board positions of recording secretary and community standards assistant with a Senate vote on Monday night.

“The responsibilities of the recording secretary would be to help create the agenda, and they do all the recording for the SGA,” said SGA President Elizabeth Palmer. “It’s important that the individual in this position is very organized and can manage time well. Plus, they need to be thorough in their work.”

The community standards assistant will create attendance policies and executive board rules. The position also requires work with Joe Mulligan and the Campus Hearing Board.

The Jan. 25 meeting held elections for the two open positions on the executive board. Allison Wedell, a sophomore history education major, and Stephanie Pharo, a sophomore law and justice/political science major, ran for the community standards assistant position. The recording secretary position also had two candidates: freshmen chemical engineering major Kelly Barb and sophomore business management major Stephanie Ackerman.

After interviews with the executive board, each candidate was introduced to the Senate, and made their speeches about why they should be elected for the position. With the candidates out of the room, the Senate voted and decided that Wedell and Ackerman would be the new executive board members.

Currently, the SGA is looking to fill the positions of election commissioner and vice election commissioner to run student government elections.

The election commissioner will preside over meetings of the election commission, as well as oversee the election process. The vice election commissioner will work closely with SGA and serve as a liaison between the commission and the student government association, as well as serve in the absence of the election commissioner.

Applicants must be full-time undergraduate, maintain the minimum campus 2.5 GPA and have served on the SGA Senate for at least one year. Interested students can submit a letter of intent by Feb. 5 to the community standards assistant in the SGA Suite in the student center.

Both positions will be chosen by a senate majority and will be reviewed by the appointment selection committee.
