College:
(Chronicle of Higher Education). Earlier in the week, the Obama Administration proposed monetary support for college graduates who have to take low-paying jobs after college. This support would come in the form of charging less for student loans and forgiving loans earlier. Loan repayment would be based on income, cutting the 15 percent payment to 10 percent, compared to annual income. The bill has been postponed in the Senate due to the health care debate.
Local:
(Courier Post) Jeremy Kane, 22 of Cherry Hill, was killed during a tour of duty on Saturday in Afghanistan during a suicide bomb attack. According to the Courier Post, Kane joined the U.S. Marine Corps in 2006 on the anniversary of Sept. 11.
State:
(AP) A Quinnipiac University Poll last week showed that two-thirds of New Jersey households polled would prefer to match public school teacher’s salaries to their job performance. About the same amount said that it should be easier to fire teachers, as opposed to the current tenure status guidelines and rules currently in place.
National:
(New York Times) President Barack Obama is asking for a spending freeze on several domestic programs for three years. The proposal, detailed in Obama’s State of the Union address last night, will cover many programs that have an annual budget set by Congress.
