Crime log: Stolen dry erase board returns to the wild

Rowan Boulevard Apartments, 5:07 p.m. –

Last week, a Rowan Boulevard resident approached a public safety officer to report the theft of a dry erase board from her apartment door. The board, bordered with pink and black zebra-print, was last seen on the apartment door at approximately 1:45 p.m. that day.

When examining a crime such as this, it helps to try and establish a motive for the crime. Why would anyone steal a dry erase board? One theory holds that the board was stolen by a group of animal rights activists. Perhaps they stole the board and returned it to the wild. Its pink and black print acts as a natural defense mechanism, allowing it to blend in with the other zebra-print dry erase boards.

In any case, the dry erase board will inevitably be returned when the thieves need something to write the ransom note on.

Magnolia Hall, 7:46 p.m. –

An officer was sent to Magnolia Hall to investigate a reported theft last week. Over the five preceding days, one of two roommates had between $320 and $350 stolen out of his wallet. The other roommate reported that his wallet and its contents had been stolen off of his dresser. The wallet contained $40, a New Jersey driver’s license and his debit card. The two victims stated that they “usually” lock their door when leaving the room.

Let this be a warning, Rowan! Local thieves are now brazen enough to enter unlocked rooms that don’t belong to them and steal other peoples wallets off of dressers!

But hey, I guess hindsight is 20/20. Hopefully we can all learn from mistakes and lock our doors when we have $400 lying around.

Although these briefs are a sample of actual incidents reported by Public Safety please note, creative license has been taken. The full report can be obtained at the office of the Department of Public Safety in Bole Annex.
