A letter to the football team

Dear Profs Football,

Alright. We get it. You’re good.

In the last four weeks, you’ve shown everyone that you can dominate a game. This past Saturday, you held the lowly Buffalo State College to 44 yards of total offense, while you ran up and down the field to accumulate 422 yards of your own.

Last weekend, your defense completely shut down a lackluster Morrisville State College team, and your offense posted 67 points along the way.

The Saturday before that wasn’t nearly as glorious. You allowed Western Connecticut to reach the end zone twice. That’s no a problem though, because your quarterback Frank Wilczynski helped your offense accumulate six Rowan touchdowns that ultimately led to a 72-14 drubbing over the Colonials.

It’s pretty apparent that you guys can beat up on the opposition. Whether you put the first team, second team or practice squad on the field, it doesn’t matter. It may seem as though the Profs are unbeatable this season. However, before we get too ahead of ourselves, let’s remember that your past four opponents currently have a combined record of 5-24.

This weekend, Rowan travels to face Kean University. Before you get off the bus in Union with your chests out too far, know that the Cougars are a different kind of animal than you’re used to. They’ve had teams at their mercy, just like you have. They have an early season loss blemishing their record, just like you do. They’re trying to win the rest of their regular season games, just like you are.

Kean’s backfield has already accumulated 1,300 yards this season. Quarterback Tom D’Ambrisi has nearly perfect passer efficiency, as he’s completed more than 60 percent of his passes and tacked on 14 touchdowns through seven games. This offense is dynamic, and this team will be a much more challenging task for the Profs than the Brockport Golden Eagles were.

This is not meant to be demoralizing. It is simply a warning. Don’t look past your opponent on Saturday.

Oh, and if you can, give me another column to write on how dominant you are.

Sincerely,
Matt Shanley
