The Whitman Diner’s new look

Located on Black Horse Pike in Turnersville, The Whitman Diner has revamped itself from the typical 1960s style New Jersey diner that made the restaurant popular over the years. In its place is a remarkable, “modern” diner furnished in deep reds and blacks.

From the new wrap-around booths to the Martini Lounge, there is an air of sophistication. The walls stare blankly at customers while the gigantic windows make them feel welcome. The shape of the plates is abstract and the salad appears to be tumbling out of its bowl. There are also neon track lights that hang carefully from the ceiling.

The greatest part about this diner is how versatile it is. One can come for a quiet Sunday morning breakfast with the family, or have a crazy night out in the lounge with your close friends. It is a very well-rounded restaurant.

While I dined here, the owner of the establishment came to my table twice to make sure that everything was made just right. Their menu offers some interesting dining options, such as the panko chicken skewers, roma panini and the global cheese board, most of which are affordable to the average college student. When I finished my main course, the server brought out a tray and explained all of the dessert options.

The Whitman also offers great prices. This is the place to go if you want to spend less than $20.

I spent $10.99 on the spaghetti with meatballs dinner and it came with either soup or a salad. I added the mixed berry sponge cake for dessert due to its bright colors and visual appeal, and absolutely adored it. Even better, it was only $3.99!

The Whitman Diner is a great place to dine for students who have become tired of on-campus food. There is ample parking and very rarely will you encounter the dreaded wait for a table.

The kitchen is open 7 a.m. to 11:30 p.m. from Sunday to Tuesday and 7 a.m. to 1 a.m. from Wednesday to Saturday.

Potential diners can also find their menu on the diner’s Web site: thewhitmandiner.com.
