It all starts in May – the summer movie season keeps us coming to theaters every weekend to see the next big hit. With so many movies coming out this summer, there’s no excuse for missing out on the next big blockbuster hit.

X-Men Origins: Wolverine” – May 1

This prequel to the “X-Men” franchise has been leaked over the internet, but still won’t hinder its anticipated opening weekend sales. Hugh Jackman kicks off the summer movie season with his return as Wolverine.

“Star Trek” – May 8

J.J. Abrams takes this much-loved sci-fi franchise and takes us back to its origins. Costing $160 million, Abrams shows us the story of James T. Kirk and the other members of USS Enterprise.

Angels & Demons – May 15

This sequel to the controversial “The DaVinci Code” brings back Tom Hanks as Robert Langdon, who is on a quest to stop the Illuminati from taking down the church. Ron Howard directs and promises another thrilling backlash similar to those of “DaVinci.”

“Terminator Salvation” – May 21

Christian Bale stars as John Connor in the newest post-apocalyptic installment of the franchise. From Bale’s “Dark Knight” to his infamous lashing out during the shooting of this film, “Terminator Salvation” should have no problem advertising its star and release.

“Up” – May 29

Monsters Inc. director Peter Docter brings us his newest and highly anticipated Pixar film, “Up.” The story follows Carl Fredricksen (played by Ed Asner), who gets tired of city life, launches hundreds of balloons out of his roof and takes off in search of something new.

“Land of the Lost” – June 5

Will Farrell is back in the adaptation of the 70’s television series, “Land of the Lost.” Also starring Danny McBride and Anna Friel, this is a story of three unfortunate people stuck in the past. Producers of the film, Marty and Sid Krofft, promise it will honor and not disappoint fans of the show.

“Away We Go” – June 5

A more indie look at the summer films, the new Sam Mendes directed film stars John Krasinski and Maya Rudolph as they play an expectant couple in search of a new place to settle down and call home.

“Year One” – June 19

Starring Jack Black and Michael Cera, this stone-aged story follows two cavemen as they take a journey through the Old Testament. With a supporting cast including the likes of Paul Rudd, David Cross, and Hank Azaria, this summer comedy will most likely bring the laughs.

Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen” – June 24

Director Michael Bay brings back an action packed sequel for your mid-summer blues. Returning actors Shia LaBeouf, Megan Fox and Josh Duhamel team up with your beloved shape-changing robots.

“Public Enemies” – July 1

This star filled crime drama from Michael Mann (“The Insider” and “The Aviator”) is set during the Great Depression, as the FBI try to bring down street gangs. Johnny Depp and Christian Bale star opposite each other, with supporting roles from Billy Crudup, Marion Cotillard and Channing Tatum.

“Bruno” – July 10

Sacha Baron Cohen is back, this time as the gay Austrian fashion reporter Bruno. If you saw “Borat,” you pretty much know what you’re getting with “Bruno,” which should be a hilarious, documentary-style film filled with even more outrageous stunts than the last.

“Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince” – July 17

The long awaited sixth installment of the Harry Potter franchise finally makes its way to theatres. Originally planned to come out last fall, director David Yates and cast take through the life and dangers of Lord Voldemort.

“(500) Days of Summer” – July 17

Another more independent film coming out this summer stars Zooey Deschanel and Joseph Gordon-Levitt as a couple going through a rollercoaster ride relationship. Director Marc Webb gets creative with his use of title cards, animation and split screens.

“Funny People” – July 31

Judd Apatow returns to the director’s seat with “Funny People,” starring Adam Sandler as a stand-up comedian diagnosed with a terminal illness. A fellow comedian, played by Seth Rogen, comes to his aid as they form a close bond in this funny, but heartfelt new film.

“Inglorious Basterds” – August 21

Quentin Tarantino is back with “Inglorious Basterds,” starring Brad Pitt as a Lieutenant in WWII France leading a troop of Jewish-American soldiers on a hunt to bring down the Nazis. Mike Myers, Samuel L. Jackson, and Eli Roth also star in this long awaited film expected to be filled with Tarantino’s signature styling’s that will either excite you or make you want to look away.
