Editorial: Administration doing the Right Thing

Rowan is currently waiting to hear from Sora Holdings, LLC, the developer working with Glassboro on the “Rowan Boulevard” project, on whether they can include the new housing complex on the list of available housing for the fall semester.

If Sora Holdings promises to complete the building by fall 2009, the doors to the building will open to campus, while those of Mansion Park will close forever. The university hopes to start demolition on Mansion Park in order to start building a freshman housing complex that will take exist at that location. Rowan anticipates that this will be completed in 2011.

The Whit hopes that Sora Holdings, LLC says “yes” to completion by Fall 2009 and would be surprised if they didn’t. Why wouldn’t they? The company has swiftly built the exterior of the building with such veracity that the developers can now focus on the interior during these snowy winter days.

The changes taking place to Rowan and Glassboro are thrilling, not to mention a long time coming. The fact that Glassboro will actually exist as an exciting college town seems to be a distant dream to most students. However, with the news that the first phase can possibly be completed as early as fall 2009, students are now forced to accept that Glassboro is no longer a desolated town with just few college attractions.

It’s easy to look at Rowan administration and Glassboro officials as old, dowdy men who don’t “get it.” The completion of “Rowan Boulevard,” along with the possibility that new housing could be available by the fall semester, shows that these people are trying. Too often, students (The Whit included) are quick to judge their any wrongdoing. Rightfully so, too, who else is there to blame but those in charge?

However, just as surely as we’re so quick to judge, we should also be quick to take note when they are doing something right. “Rowan Boulevard,” for all its controversies, will change more about what Rowan is and how Glassboro develops than any other project.

When both the boulevard housing project and the freshman housing complex are completed, it is expected to increase Rowan’s on-campus housing from 3,000 to 4,500.

It is a shame graduation exists. All the freshman get to have all the fun!
