New Whit face under new fonts

Feb 02, 2009 No Comments by Brittney Slovak

This week, The Whit’s print version tried to unify their paper with unified fonts. After ongoing complaints from typography classes, graphic design artists and the general public, the Whit staff decided to take on the tedious task of completely redesigning our style sheets.

For those not Quark-literate, this means setting specific layout fonts and designs for the entire paper. Previously, many of the font sizes differed from section to section and it was impossible for anyone to be happy with it. The changing of the fonts is the first step in an eventual complete redesign.

Unfortunately, there comes a problem with changing fonts especially with having five different computers with different sets of fonts. Attempting to load the correct font and have it load into QuarkXPress was of course left to Wednesday night, our production night. While most of the fonts transferred, there were some problems with the Bylines and captions in a few of the sections.

We are extremely happy with how the new fonts look though and hope to correct the problems for next Thursday’s print issue. Let us know what you think as well by leaving comments on our website.

I would like to introduce the following three fonts. Please welcome Calibri, Futura Condensed and Calisto.
